This elegant 20th century faceted cut glass crystal vide poche (French for “empty pocket”) is a timeless decorative object that balances beauty and utility. Designed in an octagonal form with 26 sparkling facets, the piece shimmers like a jewel, its crisp geometric edges contrasting perfectly with the smooth, rounded interior. The clear leaded glass crystal catches the light beautifully, making it both a statement piece and a versatile home accessory.
A vide poche was traditionally placed in entryways, living rooms, or bedrooms as a small tray to hold coins, keys, jewelry, cufflinks, or other daily essentials, the perfect “catchall” dish for modern living. Today, it can also be used as a candy or nut dish, a holder for small office supplies like paperclips, or simply as a decorative accent on a shelf, desk, or coffee table.
Throughout the 20th century, many important decorative glassmakers, such as Lalique, Baccarat, Saint-Louis, Val Saint Lambert, and Orrefors produced vide poches and small crystal bowls in similar faceted styles, blending artistry with practicality. This piece reflects that tradition of functional yet collectible design and embodies the clean, minimalist appeal that complements both vintage and contemporary interiors.
In good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. Minor surface scratches to the base and a few tiny fleabites to some edges and corners are visible only on close inspection, which is typical for softer leaded glass and not detracting from its luminous presentation.
