Storyteller: It was always a pleasure for Madame Dupont to host extravagant dinner parties, and each one managed to top the last. She was quite meticulous about how her dishes looked when served, and she chose each component with care. When browsing a quaint Parisian antique shop, Madame Dupont came upon a hand-made French Moser Opaline cut glass serving dish. There was a magnificent dish in the shape of a flower that floated on the surface of the glass, decorated with tiny white and gold enameled flowers. A brilliant piece of art, Madame Dupont knew immediately that it would be the showstopper of her next dinner party. Her amazement was well-founded when she learned that it had been handcrafted in France some time between 1850 and 1920 and yet looked immaculate. As she got ready for her party, Madame Dupont couldn't help but appreciate the serving dish and think about how much regard its previous owners must have felt for it. Erosion of the dazzling gold over time contributed to its ancient beauty, making it a unique attraction that would impress even the most cynical of her guests. When the big night finally here, Madame Dupont proudly set out her signature meal. Once her guests arrived, they were all fascinated by the magnificent serving dish, marveling at its intricate design and wondering how old it must be. As the evening progressed, Madame Dupont's guests ate their dinner and passed the serving dish from person to person, oohing and aahing over its exquisiteness. As her guests praised her wonderful dinner, Madame Dupont felt a surge of pride. Nevertheless, as the evening came to a close, Madame Dupont felt a pang of melancholy. She felt terrible at the prospect of giving up the gorgeous serving dish that had been such an integral part of her evening. Madame Dupont glanced at the dish, which was still shining on the table, as she gathered the filthy plates. She stretched out to touch the artifact, and an odd connection to it came over her. One of her visitors suddenly made a comment. "That plate, Madame Dupont, is a piece of art. I was wondering if there was any chance you may sell it to me. It would be a great privilege to add it to my library." A moment of hesitation passed between Madame Dupont's lips. She had never considered giving the dish away before, but now she was interested in doing so. Finally, Madame Dupont decided to sell the dish to her visitor for a substantial sum of money. Bittersweet relief washed over Madame Dupont as the guest walked away carrying the specimen. Even though she no longer owned the dish, she had no doubt that whoever had purchased it would treat it with the utmost care. And when Madame Dupont put away the last of the dishes and went to bed, she reflected with gratitude on the many happy times the dish had brought her and the many happy times that it would bring others in the years to come.
