About the Item

Ipsens Enke, Denmark Large ceramic dish with relief decoration of fish and coral. Orange glaze with a soft green rim. Manufacturer: Ipsens Enke, Denmark Material: Ceramic Dimensions: H. 4.5 cm, D. 28 cm Marking: Ipsens Enke, model no. 139. Period: 1920s–1930s Condition: Very good condition, minor signs of use A striking decorative piece where naturalistic motifs are combined with a bold color palette characteristic of the interwar period. The interplay between the tactile relief and the glowing glaze makes this work a distinctive example of Danish decorative ceramics from the era. Ipsens Enke, founded in 1843 in Copenhagen by Louise Ipsen, was one of Denmark’s leading ceramic manufactories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The factory became known for its reliefs, classicist and naturalistic motifs, and a wide range of glazes often inspired by the forms of antiquity and contemporary international trends. In the 1920s and 1930s, Ipsens Enke developed a particularly decorative style, where bold colors and relief motifs created works of strong visual expression.
