About the Item
A small mosaic ceramic bowl by Jean Gerbino, handcrafted in Vallauris, France, circa 1950s.
This finely executed piece demonstrates Gerbino’s signature terre mêlée technique, in which miniature hand-cut clay tesserae are arranged to form intricate decorative motifs. Here, a central star is built from warm ochre, mint green, and black hexagonal tiles—encircled by a dense, marbled neriage field, creating both contrast and rhythm in the surface patterning.
The bowl measures 9.5 cm in diameter and stands 2.5 cm high—modest in scale but rich in visual complexity. Signed to the underside, it remains in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks, and only light wear consistent with age.
Ideal as a pin dish, decorative accent, or collector’s object, this is a quiet yet compelling piece of mid-century Vallauris ceramic artistry.
