About the Item
Hallmarked in London in 1891 by Francis Boone Thomas, this large and impressive antique sterling silver dish displays a fine example of late Victorian craftsmanship. Oval in form and generously proportioned, the piece is pierced and decorated throughout with a garland and reed motif, interspersed with floral swags and classical shells at each end. The dish’s elegant design is further enhanced by a dramatic undulating rim, drawing the eye toward the highly detailed repoussé work and flowing lines.
Raised on a pierced foot and shaped to present with both volume and delicacy, this dish would make a striking centrepiece. It could be used for serving fruit, bread, or as a decorative accent on a dining table or sideboard.
The dish measures 10.25 inches (26cm) tall, 16.5 inches (42cm) wide, and 11 inches (28cm) deep, with a weight of 59.38 troy ounces.
This is a beautiful and versatile piece, showcasing both aesthetic appeal and practical scale, typical of the high-quality work associated with Francis Boone Thomas.
