Ceramic plate by Olle Alberius from the Kurbits Series for Rörstrand, Sweden.
Located in Skarpnäck, SE
A very nice little vintage ceramic plate, made by the very well-known designer Olle Alberius, known as "Kurbits" from Rörstrand, Sweden. Alberius ceramic always has a special feeling, the shapes are simple, but the glazing is just stunning, the pattern is slightly abstract, yet knowing that Alberius has used a traditional style of folklore decoration known as Kurbits, one can see where he got his inspiration from. All off his objects are individual since they are hand painted. The price includes free shipping. The color is just stunning a dark blue color has been used against a pale gray background and there are also some dark brown and purple details as well as black details. It is around 20cm (7.87") in diameter and 2,5cm (0.98") high. It is in a very good condition. Between the years 1957 - 1965, Olle Alberius worked in Strömstad as a designer at SYCO keramik, where he created a large number of dishes, figurines, vases and bowls. He later works at Rörstrand, and between 1963 and 1965 he was employed at both SYCO keramik and Rörstrand. Alberius was attached to Rörstrand's Porcelain Factory in 1963–1971, where he worked partly with handicrafts and partly with tableware in flint and feldspar porcelain...

Chinese Export Porcelain Plate with Judgement of Paris Scene Circa 1750
Located in Katonah, NY
An 18th-century Chinese export porcelain plate showing the Judgment of Paris. The delicately painted figures derive from a painting by Jean Paul Rubens. Made during the Qianlong Reign, circa 1750, the plate shows the goddesses Venus, Minerva, and Juno on one side and Paris on the other side. Charged by Jupiter to pick the most beautiful of the three, Paris selects Venus and awards her the golden apple. The scene shows Rubens' version of idealized feminine beauty. The rim of the plate is decorated with a rose-red flower band. Dimensions: 9 inches diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $900 Background This dish was made exclusively for the European market based on the well-known Greek story from Homer, in which Paris, the son of the King of Troy, had to choose between several Goddesses to decide which one of them was the most beautiful. According to Greek and Roman mythology, picking Venus as the most beautiful of the three goddesses...

Ceramic Nippon Morimura Brothers Decorative Dish Vide Poche or Catchall, 1800s
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
A rare find, this decorative oval shaped Nippon catchall by Morimura Brothers is a fabulous example of early Japanese ceramics. A lovely ceramic dish for holding change or other items, it will be a fabulous chintz addition to any nightstand or foyer table. Highly decorated in bouquets of pink and yellow flowers, the center of the dish is the showstopper. A chinoiserie bird in flight with a pink breast and yellow, blue and green feathers takes center stage. Surrounding him are more bouquets of flowers and a single pink and blue bird. The rim of the dish is encircled with a blue ribbon adorned with intricately painted flowers such as white daisys and pink and yellow peonies. Two handles are at each end for carrying. The handles and the rim are both painted in gold. The back stamp at bottom reads in green, “M-in-Wreath, hand-painted ("M" stands for importer, Morimura Bros.); Nippon.” Mark used since 1911. The practice of painting of the word “Nippon” on ceramic bases began in 1891 in response to the U.S. McKinley Tariff Act, which forbade the import of items that weren’t “plainly marked...

Antique Porcelain Chinoiserie Plate Hand Painted by Minton England Circa 1810
Located in Katonah, NY
Made in England circa 1810, this Minton porcelain dish is a masterpiece of English Regency chinoiserie. The hand-painted scene exhibits vibrant colors, intricate details, and a playful spirit. The dish shows three young boys playing on a seesaw. The boys display a delightful childish innocence. Jean-Baptiste Pillement's drawings inspired this Minton image ( for more on Pillement, see below). The last image shows an image of Pillement's work. The underside of the plate shows the Minton mark in underglaze blue with pattern number 539. Dimensions: Diameter 8.25 in. x H 1.5 in. Condition: Excellent Price: $480 For more information on the Chinese Sports Series, see Loren Zeller's article "Jean-Baptiste Pillement's Recueil de Plusieurs Jeux d'Enfants Chinois: A Review of the Artist's Work as Source for 18th and 19th Century Ceramic Designs" in the Northern Ceramic Society Journal, Volume 32, June 20 Jean-Baptiste Pillement was a French painter and designer known for his exquisite and delicate drawings and the engravings done after his drawings. Antique 18th Century Chinese Porcelain Plate with Regency Style Overdecorating
Located in Amsterdam, Noord Holland
A very nicely made piece of 18th century porcelain decorated with a beautiful scene. Underglaze blue and overglaze other enamels done later in Europe. We have also added a picture of how a similar original Blue and white dish would have looked like. This is an example of British overdecoration.Provenance:Provenance: Doyle Sep 27, 2024 11:00 Boston Collects, Lot 1083 Six Chinese Porcelain Table Items 18th and 19th centuries Estate / Collection: Property of a Jamestown, Rhode Island Collector Often seen as ugly and black sheep of the porcelain world. British 1810-1820 Clobbered wares deserve better as they are historically very interesting. So lets call them George the IV or Regency Taste redecorated porcelain. And leave the clobbered behind us as it does no justice to what they are at all. Its not that because we live in a time were these super funky colours are out of taste that we should hate on these pieces. A short history! During the early 19th century, the Prince Regent (later King George IV) played a key role in cultivating a taste for the exotic Orient among the British elite, influencing interior design during the Regency era. His lavish projects, such as the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, epitomized this fascination. The Pavilion, with its blend of Indian, Chinese, and Gothic elements, became a symbol of the Prince’s extravagant taste. The interiors featured Chinese wallpaper, Indian textiles, and oriental furniture, reflecting the era’s growing interest in Chinoiserie and other oriental-inspired designs. This trend extended to the decorative arts, where clobbered Chinese porcelain—originally blue-and-white pieces—was reimagined with bright reds, golds, greens, and dragons to cater to the new European tastes. These colorful repainted pieces symbolized wealth, sophistication, and an affinity for the exotic, perfectly complementing the bold and opulent interiors of the time. The dragon, a powerful symbol in Chinese culture, was a recurring motif in these porcelain pieces, further aligning with the Regency’s romanticized view of the Orient. George IV’s penchant for luxury, eccentricity, and vibrant decoration influenced the wider aristocratic society, and clobbered porcelain...
