About the Item

Ipsens Enke, bowl with frog, model 293 An atmospheric bowl from Ipsens Enke, produced in the early 20th century. The form is shaped as a leaf in green and orange tones, upon which a naturalistic frog rests on the rim. The glaze enhances both the sculptural expression of the animal and the organic texture of the leaf, giving the piece a vivid naturalism. Origin: Denmark Period: Early 20th century Maker: Ipsens Enke Model: 293 Material: Terracotta/ceramic Condition: In fine condition Dimensions: H. 7 cm, D. 15 cm Stamped to the underside A characteristic example of Ipsens Enke’s fascination with nature-inspired motifs, where animals and flora merge in decorative functional objects. Ipsens Enke was founded in Copenhagen in 1843 and was especially active during the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. The factory is known for its naturalistic ceramic works, often inspired by animals, plants, and classical motifs, and played a significant role in Danish ceramic tradition.
