This small Chinese tray from the mid-19th century expresses the quiet beauty of humble objects. Likely used atop a woman's dressing table, the wooden tray is hand-carved to the shape of a folding fan, textured with chisel marks and trimmed with a fine beaded edge. A layer of black lacquer darkens the surface, now lightly faded and softened by an antique patina.
