About the Item

An antique brown-clay plate from Magyarlapos, Transylvania, dating to the early 20th century. The hand-thrown earthenware form has a shallow well and scalloped rim, richly hand-painted with stylized floral motifs in white, green, and ochre against a dark brown glaze. A fine example of regional folk pottery, the piece displays the expressive brushwork and symmetry characteristic of Transylvanian decorative ceramics.
