About the Item
ABOUT
An antique lunch box with metal thermos and original food storage case, advertising a college rock band "The Kollege Kids". It features three hands waving different school pennants on both sides (Yale, Amherst, Princeton, Harvard, and Dartmouth). All hand-painted by an amateur artist. Chrome thermos is lined with mercury glass and original cork. Stamped on the bottom, "Sept. 24, 07".

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Metal, Canvas Over Particle Board, Mercury Glass, Cork.
CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Box leather handle is missing. Minor wear throughout on the box. Some lifting of the cover material on the back of the top. Thermos bottle may or may not be original.

Charming American Toleware Tin Box. Box is hand-painted in vivid folk art floral motifs of red, gold, and green against a deep black background. The domed lid features an oval black tin handle, and the front of lid retains the front portion of its original latch. This example displays the warmth and character typical of the 19th century decorative tinware, where utilitarian household objects were elevated through hand-painted embellishment. The floral and foliate designs were often inspired by Pennsylvania German or New England folk art traditions. Artisans and tin peddlers offered these brightly adorned boxes, trays, etc to rural families. Each was uniquely decorated, often by women, to reflect floral motifs in domestic interiors of the Federal and Victorian periods.
