Set of Floor Ashtrays Brown Leather and Brass Mid Century Standing Portable Pair Mid-Century Modern Period Wear consistent with age and use. DIMENSIONS H 20" x Dm 4" or 50 cm x Dm 10 cm There are marks on the seams. As the name suggests, the Mid-century style refers to the middle of the last century, particularly the period between the forties and sixties, just after World War II. It was a moment of great excitement for the world of design and architecture, which led to the production of iconic furniture, such as the famous sessions of Ray and Charles Eames. Anticipated by the Bauhaus movement in Germany and continued with the American-style interiors, the new modernist current put the new demands of living in the foreground, proposing pieces of practicality and a linear, almost futuristic appearance. Industrial production then made it possible to make furniture in large quantities with a wide variety of materials and finishes. Today as in the past, Mid-century interiors aim to be visually lightweight, combining functionality and aesthetics. Among the main features, we remember: Fluid, organic geometries, with clean lines and contrasting textures, to create an airy and beautiful environment to live. Accumulations of materials only apparently distant, such as wood, steel, plastic and leather. Elaborate colour palettes, consisting of neutral bases and colour accents. Great use of stylised graphics and patterns, to break the rigour of modern furnishings.
