About the Item
Bible box hand-crafted in Italy in the mid 1600s using walnut. The box is still in fantastic shape and has a gorgeous patina. On three sides it is decorated with beautiful hand-carved intersecting leafy decorations. The edge of the top, the base and the feet are also all decorated with floral and geometrical hand-carved motifs. The flat top is adorned with simple thin inlay around the edge and a patterned shield inlay in the center. On the inside we can find a long compartment covered by a lid and several openings. If one were to take a guess the inside of the box may have been full of small drawers that are now gone, but this is just speculation on my part.
This is a box that originally was made for someone with money and status; its details are exquisite and it will beautiful accent piece. Wherever it is placed in a home it will provide decoration as well as a beautiful conversation piece that has witness many centuries of history.
