About the Item
A pair of paper covered wooden boxes, a set of large and small.
Made around 1894 (Meiji 27), written on the lid with brush calligraphy in matching larger box which is in my listing.
Can be displayed as a unique wabi sabi art piece, also as display stand with storage capacity.
Box is fully covered, reinforced
coated with reused Washi (traditional Japanese paper), even the bottom of the box to the inside.
The unique wabi sabi texture is coming from the layers of reused Washi, the papers were flipped when layered
glued repeatedly. so the text on papers became sort of abstract patterns.
The reused papers probably applied aimed to cover up the slits between wood boards, but not only for that - I guess the owner wanted to add a kind of decoration to the box too.
