About the Item
A Swedish green painted pine wood box from the Folk Art
Rococo-period, meaning late 18th Century or early 19th Century. The lock hardware is original and the key is working working well, the inside has 3 departments with "waved" dividers to define 3 small compartments that is typical of the Rococo period.
This Scandinavian folk art box retains its original paint and has amazing patina. We have cleaned the box and have kept the very appealing original wear from hundres of years of usage. The box was most likely used as a letter box for important papers and keepsakes. The box appears to have belonged to a man since the end of the initials is an S that stands for "Son" of H.J.S. We found this piece as part of a collection from the area between Dalsland and Värmland in Sweden. Certainly makes a wonderful addition to any home.
