About the Item
A fine 19th Century Edwards and Roberts dome-shaped satinwood box with a lower drawer is elegantly adorned with vases and floral swags and cross-banded in rosewood. It is beautifully lined with velvet—a later addition—and the bottom drawer is stamped with the maker’s name, Edwards
Roberts.
Edwards and Roberts, a prominent English antique furniture cabinet maker, emerged in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Established in 1845, the company quickly gained recognition and was trading as ‘Edwards and Roberts’ by 1854. Located at 21 Wardour Street, they specialized in both antique and contemporary cabinetry and were known for importing exquisite ancient furniture. Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail, they produced high-quality pieces characterized by satinwood marquetry and a strong preference for Georgian-inspired designs.
