About the Item

Decorate a coffee table or a shelf with this elegant and colorful casket. Crafted in Italy circa 1880, the Venetian box stands on heavily carved feet decorated with gilt acanthus leaf motifs, over a straight apron embellished with a center floral mount in high relief; each corner and surface are further decorated with parcel gilt shell and foliage motifs. The Baroque ebonized case features four hand painted panels with capriccios of classical ruins and landscape on all sides. The top with a raised panel is also decorated with a hand painted Italian scene with ruins and mountains in the background. Opening the top, it reveals a large interior upholstered with red velvet, and a chain holding the top from dropping. The Rococo decorative box is in excellent condition and adorns rich colors in the blue, green and beige palette, over a black background and gilt accents. 22"W x 16"D x 15"H
