Antique Egyptian Revival Art Deco enameled 800 grade silver gilt cloisonne enamel box, Italy, circa 1925.
The hexagonal shaped lidded box having a hinged lid, decorated with a head of a pharoah/ King Tutankhamun, modeled in deep relief with a blue enamel ground
decorated with floral
geometric devices in green, maroon
white enamels. The base of the box with corresponding decoration, the lid is stamped to the lip with "800", the interior of the box with a gold wash.

British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the nearly intact tomb of King Tutankhamun in Egypt's Valley of the Kings in November 1922. After years of searching, Carter found the first step of the tomb's staircase, and the discovery led to the unearthing of over 5,000 artifacts, including his iconic gold death mask.

The breakthrough: After years of searching, Carter's team found the top step of a staircase on November 4, 1922.
Unveiling the tomb: The team cleared the staircase, which led to a sealed doorway. In late November 1922, Carter, with his benefactor Lord Carnarvon, broke a small hole in the door.
