The Writing Box of rectangular form veneered in exotic Coromandel with brass edging and brass stringing to the front and lid. The top of the box features a brass initial plaque formed in a circle with a belt and a matching circular brass barrel escutcheon. The Writing Box is finished with flush mounted campaign style twin loop carry handles each side. When opened the writing box reveals a dark red leather writing slope with embossed borders and gold tooling. The box is faced in Coromandel with brass strengthening to every corner. The rear of the writing box houses two Crown top inkwells, a removable pen tray and two further storage compartments, one lidded. The writing slope contains two storage sections lined in Satinwood, one in the lower half which lifts via a central tab and the second in the top half opens via a matching tab. Both storage lids are embossed with the makers mark Fisher, 188 Strand. There is a secret compartment which can be accessed by removing the pin from underneath the lid of the left storage compartment. Once removed the user can depress the secret locking mechanism which is located in the lock plate on the right hand screw. When the screw is pushed down a spring loaded compartment pops up containing three drawers. The Writing slope dates to the first half of the 19th century during the Victorian period Circa 1845.

On offer here is an elegant English mahogany writing box dating back to the late 19th century, around 1880. The box, with gently rounded upper corners, was crafted from solid pine wood and then veneered with rich mahogany. At the center of the lid, there is an inlaid oval piece of mother-of-pearl, complemented by a matching mother-of-pearl escutcheon surrounding the keyhole.
