About the Item
A handsome and very stylish biscuit box dating to circa 1890 by the top notch silversmith, John Grinsell
Sons of Sheffield.
Made from solid English oak, the box is fitted with elegant and simple silver plated fittings including a shield shaped cartouche to the front. Once the lid is opened the original creamware / ceramic liner is intact with minor wear. The hinge is where the mark for the silversmith can be found (a cupid inside a shield).
A fabulous box in excellent condition; the base diameter measures 6 1/2"; the handles span 8 3/4" and it stands 6 1/2" tall.
