About the Item

This beautiful small oval box is a very complicated piece of English cabinet making. It has been very precisely made with a perfectly fitted lid. The box sits on an ebonized moulded plinth. The sides are veneered in upright panels of various woods and where they meet with the top they then form tapered wood segments which radiate from a small central ebony oval patria. The lid lifts off and locates onto a raised ebony edge and both of the closing surfaces are also ebony veneered. The interior is finished in burr veneer. This box is a remarkable piece that would have taken great skill to produce. English, circa 1910 Height 4.5cm x width 14cm x depth 7cm

A Superb Quality Silver plated Domed oval box This fine oval box was made in the 1920s. It is a good example made from heavy gauge copper with a domed lid which has decorative dragooned moulding at the top edge and also the rim where it opens on a stop hinge.
