About the Item

This is a very good quality French Art Deco period Lidded Box, of Bird's Eye Maple with a chrome bar handle, dating to circa 1925. The box has a rectangular shape with bevel rounded edges to the top. The plan view of the top has been designed with a slightly protruding shaped curved section to the lid top just above the handle, which is a nice detail feature of the box and reinforces the quality of the piece. It is very well made of a beautifully cut, well figured, Bird's-Eye maple on all faces apart from the base. The interior faces are also made of Bird's Eye maple which is unusual and another sign of quality as most boxes have interiors made of lesser soft woods. The Maple has a lovely mellow colour and is typical of the period. The box has a dove tailed hinged lid and is fitted with its original chrome bar shaped handle. This box has a very "in-period" design and shape, with bird's-eye maple being used extensively for Art Deco furniture pieces of the time, such as bureaus, tables and desks. The box is very well made and in great condition with a variety of uses such as jewelry or trinkets, on the desk or dressing table.
