Biedermeier Box, Ice Birch, Germany, circa 1840
Beautiful, simple Biedermeier casket box from Germany, circa 1840.
Ice birch veneer on oak and softwood painted black on the inside. Underside veneered in mahogany.
Large double brass lock and three hinges (two in the center and one extra with a bow strap on the left). Ebonized knob with white dot on the front of the lid.
Restored condition, hand-polished with shellac.
