About the Item
Refined storage box in brass and plexiglass, designed by Renato Meneghetti for DDD Design in the 1970s. The circular form is enhanced by a central plexiglass band that creates an elegant contrast with the warm sheen of the brass, while the domed lid, topped with a sphere featuring a central plexiglass detail, gives the piece a sculptural and distinctive character. The artist's engraved signature on the plexiglass band attests to the authenticity and value of the work, complemented by the original "DDD Design" label on the underside. Perfect as a container for small objects or as a decorative tabletop element, this creation combines the purity of geometric forms with the elegance of fine materials, representing a significant example of Italian 1970s design.

Renato Meneghetti, born in Rosà (Vicenza) in 1947, is a multifaceted and conceptual artist active internationally, known for a visual language that merges painting, installation, and technological experimentation. Self-taught in painting, he also trained in architecture and design under the guidance of Carlo Scarpa in Venice, developing a creative approach that traverses genres and techniques. His most recognizable hallmark is the use of radiographic plates overlaid on paintings or transparent supports such as plexiglass-a practice that reveals a hidden dimension of the image and invites the viewer to look beyond the surface, transforming the body, memory, and the artwork itself into a field of poetic and conceptual investigation. This research, described by many as a "radiography of the soul," is expressed in iconic installations such as the one presented at the 54th Venice Biennale (2011), where his radiographic reinterpretation of Andrea Mantegna's Lamentation over the Dead Christ resulted in a monumental and immersive work.
Recurring themes in his work are the anti-playful and anti-sensual: his creations do not aim to seduce through immediacy, but to engage the viewer in a deeper, almost unsettling experience that requires attention and introspection. Prominent critics and artists, including Lucio Fontana, Gillo Dorfles, Pierre Restany, Achille Bonito Oliva, and Vittorio Sgarbi, have written about him, acknowledging his innovative force and his ability to redefine the concept of vision. His works are included in public and private collections, exhibited in galleries and international fairs, and have achieved significant auction results, with hammer prices exceeding €8,000. Through his work, Meneghetti establishes himself as a central figure in contemporary Italian art, capable of uniting technical refinement with a profound reflection on vision and on the very essence of the image.Refined storage box in brass and plexiglass, designed by Renato Meneghetti for DDD Design in the 1970s. Sculptural ashtray attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d
Arte, 1970
By Albano Poli
Located in Conversano, IT
Refined sculptural ashtray attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, made in Murano between the 1950s and 1960s, an impeccable example of the submerged glass technique that made the master famous.
The work features a faceted body of great geometric purity, shaped from a single solid block of multi-layer glass: an internal core with intense amethyst shades emerges through a crystalline band in aquamarine tones, creating an extremely sophisticated luminous dialogue.
The external surfaces, hand-ground with absolute precision, are articulated into inclined planes and diamond cuts that refract the light and transform the volume into a true optical sculpture.
The hollowed interior reveals a soft cavity, perfectly smoothed, typical of Poli's poetics, in which transparency and color seem to merge into a single fluid mass.
The contrast between the geometric rigor of the external faces and the roundness of the submerged core gives the work a visual balance of rare elegance, while the amethyst-aquamarine chromatic combination represents one of the most sought-after palettes of mid-century Seguso production.
The object, of notable weight and crystalline quality, is an extraordinary example of Murano mastery in postwar artistic glass and constitutes an iconic piece for collectors and connoisseurs of Italian submerged glass.

Signed Alessandro Mandruzzato for Design Guild Murano Sommerso Faceted Glass Box
By Alessandro Mandruzzato
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Signed Alessandro Mandruzzato for Design Guild Murano Sommerso Faceted Glass Box, 1970s
A striking sculptural Murano glass box signed “Mandruzzato for Design Guild,” showcasing the celebrated faceted-block technique perfected by the Mandruzzato family in the 1960s–80s. The heavy, optic-clear crystal form contains a dramatic sommerso core, rendered in deep black glass infused with shimmering micro-granulated 24k gold. The internal composition appears to float within the thick, architectural walls, magnified by the sharply cut and hand-polished geometric facets.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a molded black-glass interior well, its glossy surface contrasting with the jewel-like radiance of the glass block. The original brass piano hinge and frame remain intact. This design was produced as a special commission for Design Guild, a luxury American importer, and is far scarcer than the unsigned Mandruzzato vases and blocks commonly encountered.
A powerful example of Murano Brutalist...
