Carole Stupell Silvered Gilt Bronze Foxhound Box, Signed Italian-Made Italy, Late 20th Century Dimensions: 5" H x 5" W x 6.5" D Interior: 2.5" Diameter x 3.25" High Weight: 4.5 lbs, Two pieces, the figural foxhound lid and the collar base A striking and substantial silvered bronze lidded box sculpted in the form of a sporting foxhound’s head, signed in script Carole Stupell and marked Made in Italy on the underside. Rendered with an alert expression and fine incised texturing to simulate fur, the head is silver-plated and toned with antique black accents to emphasize its noble and slightly menacing character. The removable lid rests atop a separately cast gilt bronze collar with raised spike details and an integrated cylindrical container within—ideal for tabletop, vanity, or sporting interior display. The piece is cast in two solid bronze components, the lid in heavy silver, and the base in ormolu with seamless nesting and a satisfying heft. Attribution Provenance From the Palm Beach estate of Carole Stupell—a noted collector and designer known for theatrical objets—this rare and weighty box (4.5 lbs) may represent an early prototype or artist’s proof, likely executed in Italy during the 1960s–1970s.
