About the Item

This 19th-century English patch box dates to the early–mid 1800s and is carved and polished from cow horn. It consists of two carved sections and measures approximately 2 inches in diameter and 0.75 inches in height. The horn has been carefully worked and polished, giving it a soft luster and partial translucency similar in appearance to tortoiseshell. The lid features a side-profile portrait, likely depicting King William IV, who reigned from 1830 to 1837. The patch box is in very good antique condition for its age, with wear consistent with time and use. It serves as a well-preserved example of small personal objects from the William IV period, reflecting the materials and craftsmanship of early 19th-century England. Beautiful gift for a collector of refined objects.
