About the Item
Rare and valuable ebony-plated domed case with rich gilt bronze decoration and central jasper medallion.
Italian Renaissance manufacture from the early 17th century.
The production of boxes made of precious essences enriched with bronze and semi-precious stone decorations was popularized in the 17th century by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence. There are few original specimens from the period; most of the boxes on the art market today are reproductions from the 19th century.
Our box is in excellent condition, complete with original key and lock.
