About the Item

Very nice box also used as a pillow in the Japanese culture, early 20th century. It is black lacquered and decorated with hand painted golden floral patterns. The copper latch is nicely chiseled with a flower and an eagle, as well as the support of the latch in the shape of a flower. To support the box, two handles are arranged on one side each. The lid is soft, to be able to rest its head. On top is glued a leaf with gold decorations very well executed, representing a warrior on his horse in a frame of leaves. When the box is opened, a leather strap is nailed on the left side, allowing to maintain the lid. On the inside, a brown paper with red and black Japanese inscriptions is glued.
