Casket Shaped boulle Sewing Box with Full Contents
From our Sewing Box collection, we are delighted to introduce to the market this English Boulle Sewing Box by Friedrich Ludwig Hausburg.
The sewing box of sarcophagus shape raised upon four ball feet and extensively decorated with inlaid brass and tortoiseshell boulle work.
The lid features a pagoda style rise with brass edging and mirrored scenes to each panel with birds, foliage and flowers amongst scrollwork.
The interior of the box is beautifully faced in ebony with a patterned centre stringing, a defining characteristic of Hausburg. The interior lid features an inset mirror with velvet lining embossed with scrollwork. The top removable tray features a complete sewing set with thick mother of pearl lids and reels, a glass bottle and a central removable tool pad with scissors, a pencil, a pick, a needle case, tweezers and a bodkin. The top tray lifts out to access further storage below.
The Boulle Sewing Box by Friedrich Ludwig Hausburg dates to the early Victorian period and the middle of the 19th century Circa 1840.
