About the Item
A finely made English Regency-period folding memorandum case, veneered in genuine tortoiseshell with softly rounded edges and narrow silver-mounted borders. The hinged form opens to reveal a red-lined interior, likely intended for notes or visiting cards, with hand-finished construction evident throughout. The natural translucency and mottled coloration of the shell, combined with the simple push-stud clasp and inset knuckle hinge, are characteristic of early 19th-century English workmanship. Unmarked, as typical for this class of object, the case is attributable to an unidentified English maker working within the Birmingham or London tortoiseshell trades during the Regency period.
