About the Item
A rare and evocative artist box by Mexican artist Enrique Zavalo, most likely dating to the turn of the century. Cast in bronze with a rich green patina and vertebrae style finish, this sculptural box is both striking and deeply tactile. The lid is beautifully detailed with six birds in relief, adding movement and symbolism to the form.
The interior is lined in red suede and measures approximately one and a half inches deep, making it suitable for small treasures or display as a decorative object. This piece has remained in a single family since it was made and retains its original maker’s sticker on both the underside and interior, an exceptional detail that adds to its provenance and collectibility.
A highly personal and sculptural work that bridges fine art and functional design, offering character, history, and craftsmanship in equal measure.
