A Stunning Late Grand Tour Collectors Box 19th Century Mahogany
Ebony Pietra Dura Karlsbad, Germany.
The Lid Is Decorated with Marble And Agate Geometric Motifs.
With Continental Silver Binding
Original Working Key. and engraved with Karlsbad to top.
Interior features original marbleised decorative paper.
In the middle of the 19th century, the bathing industry experienced a significant boom. With his publications about the Bohemian baths and the effects of their medicinal waters, the balneologist and imperial personal physician Josef von Löschner helped Karlsbad to flourish as a health resort of world renown. The decisive factor for this was the connection to the European railway network in 1870. Initially, operations began on the Karlovy Vary – Eger route and shortly afterwards the Prague – Karlovy Vary route followed.
