We are pleased to present this refined mid-20th-century Italian decorative box, a sophisticated object distinguished by its elegant materials and sculptural detailing. Crafted in Italy circa the 1970s, it features a rectangular wooden form veneered in richly figured elm burl, offering a warm and luxurious visual depth.
A finely executed brass band crosses the center of the lid, creating a harmonious visual link between the slender Art Deco–inspired handle and the central decorative element. The focal point is a silver-toned resin bas-relief medallion depicting Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn (Aurora in Roman mythology), shown riding a quadriga as she precedes the chariot of the Sun — a poetic and timeless mythological motif.
Discreet faux malachite accents enrich the brass detailing and frame the ebony-stained wooden handle, adding subtle contrast and refinement. Preserved in good, original vintage condition, the box has been professionally cleaned to enhance its patina, with minor signs of age consistent with its authenticity.
