Japanese Antique Wabi-Sabi Storage Box 1860s-1900s / Tansu Sideboard Side Table

About the Item

This is an old storage box made in Japan. It was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s) and is made of cedar wood. The main feature of this storage box is the tin repairs applied throughout. The tin sheets have been carefully hammered together to create a unique patchwork-like landscape. Rusting and ageing overlap each other, giving the building a look reminiscent of the beauty of nature's formations, even though it is a man-made structure. This is proof that the product has been used with great care even under the harshest of conditions. The box has withstood intense use and has been repaired repeatedly whenever it has been damaged, making it a true "survivor's tool. Behind the box, we can sense the spirit of the people of the time who cherished their possessions. This one-of-a-kind taste, which is difficult to reproduce today, is a major attraction of antiques. It can be used not only as a storage box, but also as a display stand, interior object, etc., in various ways in modern spaces. As it has been cleaned, it can be used with confidence immediately upon arrival. This is a one-of-a-kind piece in which the spirit of Wabi-Sabi lives on.
