About the Item
Here is a very iconic lidded box by Russian born John Otar. This 1936 patented design (submitted in 1933) was made in Otar's Santa Cruz workshop. Its design is unique in that the discs are axially aligned, stacked upon each other, and frictionally compressed to avoid displacement--a truly ground-breaking approach to modernist engineered industrial design.
This box has been featured in numerous museum collections and is in very good original condition. A rare find.
