About the Item
A striking green glass turtle-shaped trinket box by Curt Schlevogt. Produced in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. This sculptural container is a mid-century reissue of Art Deco malachite glassware, originally developed in collaboration with Heinrich Hoffmann.
The piece is moulded from original early 20th-century moulds, part of Schlevogt’s celebrated “Ingrid” line, and crafted in pressed malachite glass — a type of richly swirled slag glass designed to mimic the appearance of the semi-precious stone. The surface has been frosted or acid-etched to diffuse the glass’s colour variations, creating a soft matte finish that accentuates the organic texture.
The body of the turtle forms the box’s base, while the domed shell serves as the removable lid. The detailing is exceptional, with a carefully modelled shell, legs, and head that capture the naturalistic character of the animal.
Dimensions:
21 cm width × 10 cm depth × 12 cm height.
In very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. Some light surface wear consistent with age and careful handling.
This collectable vintage Czech turtle box is ideal as a jewellery container, desk accessory, or decorative object among other Bohemian glass or Art Deco pieces.
