About the Item
We are pleased to offer for sale an unusual and playful object that will not go unnoticed in your home. This is a large-scale Italian box made of stainless steel, shaped like a fruit—specifically, a pear.
This whimsical object, dating to around the 1970s, can serve a variety of purposes: as a tobacco box on a coffee table, to conceal unattractive packaging of delicious cookies, as a Mid-20th-Century modern tea caddy, or even as an ice bucket, despite the absence of an internal plastic liner.
The minimalist design of this piece recalls works designed by Ettore Sottsass for Rinnovel or by Lino Sabattini for Christofle. A pop yet refined object, it looks especially striking when displayed on a shelf or countertop, particularly when paired with the three apple-shaped pieces from the same series, which are also available in our selection.
The box is in good vintage condition. It has no dents but shows some signs of use, including a scratch visible in the photos on the lower part of the box.
