About the Item
This incredibly rare two-tier Swiss Black Forest jewelry box is fully hand-carved from a single block of wood, making it a true masterpiece. What sets this box apart is its unique design—featuring two separate lids with compartments. The top lid with the bird centrepiece, opens independently, while the entire box itself can be accessed as well.
Expertly crafted by a master carver, the box displays a captivating forest scene with detailed branches and leaves. Nestled between the branches, a fox gazes up at the bird perched atop the jewelry box. The entire scene is skilfully executed, capturing the beauty of nature in stunning detail. The box is meticulously finished on all sides, making it a true work of art from every angle.
The interior holds another fascinating secret. Beneath the worn velvet, we discovered old newspapers used between the carvings and the fabric. These newspapers, preserved by the original upholstery glue, are written in German and are dated January 25, 1865, adding an extra layer of authenticity and history to this already remarkable piece.
Please note that the piece comes without its key, but its exceptional craftsmanship and rare design make it an outstanding addition to any collection or home.
