We are pleased to offer this rare and striking Art Deco box, a sculptural decorative object destined to become a focal point on any coffee table. The charming undulating copper sheet handle immediately evokes its period, confirming a creation date in the 1930s. Produced in Europe — most likely France or Italy — the box features a camphor wood structure entirely clad in an exceptional animalier mosaic decoration.
Nearly the entire surface of this vintage box is meticulously covered with Bakelite tesserae, artfully crafted to resemble cross-sections of animal horn, possibly deer or roe deer. The result is a richly tactile and visually captivating texture that reflects the bold material experimentation characteristic of the Art Deco era.
The box has undergone a professional conservative restoration. Missing hinge screws were carefully replaced, and the entire surface was cleaned and treated with appropriate products to preserve and protect its original patina.
