About the Item

A gorgeous early design by René Lalique for the perfume maker L.T.Piver in Paris. The Scarabée series was featuring scarabs on Piver's perfume bottles of different sizes and also included this box for crème. It is documented in the « René Lalique 1860-1945 ... catalogue raisonné », by Félix Marcilhac, les editions de l'amateur, 4th edition, on page 970, PIVER (L.T.) - 1. The Scarabée design for L.T.Piver always comes unsigned. Although already from 1909, this art nouveau design already seems to anticipate typical elements of art deco, like rapport and the revival of Egyptian motives in decorative arts that should come in the mid 1920ties along with the discovery and clearance of several tombs in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor. Even in the unlikely case that the Scarab should not work as a lucky charm for you, it still does look great on the lid of this beautiful glass box.
