About the Item
A charming antique Art Nouveau papier-mâché box, beautifully hand-painted with a delicate botanical composition. The lid features finely rendered white blossoms intertwined with blue cornflowers, accompanied by a small butterfly—classic motifs of the Art Nouveau era, celebrating nature’s fluid forms and poetic asymmetry.
The box opens to reveal a contrasting deep orange lacquered interior, typical of late 19th–early 20th century European papier-mâché craftsmanship. Its elongated rectangular format makes it perfect for use as a jewelry box, trinket box, or writing accessory/pencil case.
Despite age-related wear, small paint losses, and a cracks to one corner, the piece retains a wonderful antique presence and authentic patina.
A lovely collectible example of European lacquered papier-mâché work, perfect for lovers of Art Nouveau, botanical art, and antique decorative boxes.
