About the Item

A fine antique 19th century French Chinoiserie gilt brass, Cloisonné and Champlevé jewelry box, with a rock crystal top, circa 1880. This exquisite box with a thick chamfered hinged rock crystal lid inset into a gilt brass crenelated bezel, the box with a ball shaped catch closes tightly. The base with a black enamel background is decorated with Champlevé Chinese figures; some with butterfly nets, figures juggling blades, musicians and ladies of the Imperial court. The box is raised on four gilt brass ball shaped feet, the box with the original slightly distressed cushioned fabric lining. Such boxes would have crystal or glass lids to allow the owner to view the contents, the box is in very good condition.
