About the Item
Beautiful vintage Murano hand blown Sommerso red orange, yellow and clear Italian art glass powder / jewelry box. Documented to designer Alfredo Barbini, circa 1950s. It is published in the Barbini catalog. The lid still has the original "Venetian - Made By Alfredo Barbini For Weil Ceramics and Glass - Murano Italy" gold and red label attached to it. The design of the piece has some indents on the body. You can see the 2 lines where it is folded-in on the main image. The lid handle also has the same indent line on it, as you can see from the colors refract at different angles. Towards the bottom of the jar bowl, you can see how the red, yellow and clear layers all mix to create a nice orange color. Would make a great display piece at a desk, bedside table or vanity. Fill it with mints or candies. It is very heavy, made with thick glass. Mid-century era. Measures 6" tall x 5 3/4" wide.

Alfredo Barbini
Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007), a glass artist born in 1912 on the islands of Murano in the lagoon of Venice, Italy, was one of Murano's leading figures of the 20th century. His parents were members of families, which had been prominent in the glassmaking industry on Murano for generations as glassblowers and beadmakers.
