Bramah London Regency Brass and Rosewood Jewelry Box, circa 1850-1870

About the Item

A fine Regency brass and rosewood jewelry box, circa 1850-1870; lock signed by Bramah, London; with secret spring-driven pocket watch drawer This gorgeous little Regency jewelry travelling box retains the original lock manufactured by the firm of Bramah in London; as they also served as retailers of fine boxes, the box may also be a product of their shop. The quality is of the highest grade. Dressed in rich and exotic rosewood veneers finished with brass framing and with an unetched brass plaque on the lid, the box presents beautifully. Retaining early and likely original perfume bottles with sterling silver lids, the velvet finished interior remains in rather excellent condition; it is fitted to include a pen well, organizing spaces for jewelry, a drop down section finished in tooled blue leather for storing papers and an original dressing mirror behind the furled green velvet and a larger storage space accessibly by using the brass hoops to lift out the jewelry tray. A tiny button at the back edge of the case allows a crisply dovetailed drawer beneath the case to pop out, this revealing a fitted area for a pocket watch and necklaces. It is a rich and beautifully preserved piece for the serious collector of these fine antique boxes. Measurements: 12” W x 9” D x 7” H Condition report: Little dividers between perfume bottles loose - we can insert corner blocking upon request to fix this. Retaining original lock and key (trace rust on key). Old shrinkage cracks in rosewood veneers of lid. Green baize on bottom is added. Middle green felt compartment missing its lid. Some small losses to wood tray edges on right and left of outermose perfume bottles.
