About the Item

“God in the heart, Love in the arms, Makes the bed pleasant and warm, Since 1713.” Translated in English ,-those poetic and symbolic in nature, charming German inscription are encircling the exterior of this Treasure Box. Such inscriptions were traditionally associated with bridal chests or intimate personal caskets, often given as wedding or betrothal gifts. A rare and exceptionally well-preserved early 18th century German Treasure Box originating from Nuremberg and dated 1713, as proudly inscribed on the front panel “Anno 1713.” The box is masterfully crafted from wood and entirely clad in embossed and tooled leather (goat skin), richly decorated with scrolling foliage, floral motifs, and heart-shaped medallions- iconography closely associated with marriage, fidelity, and domestic harmony in Baroque Germany. The leather surface retains a beautiful warm patina, testifying to over three centuries of history. The interior is lined with its original hand-printed dominoté paper, featuring scrolling floral designs in red and ochre tones- an increasingly rare survival and a highly desirable feature for collectors. Inside compartments remain intact, further underscoring the box’s authenticity and careful preservation. The Box retains its original iron lock and key, beautifully forged, adding both functional integrity and historical charm.
