France, Napoleon III period, circa mid-to-late 19th century. Lacquered wood, gilt decoration, silk lining. Dimensions: Height 8 cm × Width 20 cm The square form features ribbed edges and a scalloped base, all finished in lustrous black lacquer. The lid and sides are adorned with intricate gold-painted scenes of courtiers in a palace garden, rendered in delicate detail and framed by architectural motifs and foliage. The interior is lined with tufted pink silk, softly faded and gently worn, offering a glimpse into its storied past.
