About the Item
This is a gilt bronze repousse rectangular jewelry/decorative box. It features in the top of the lid a scene of Don Quixote riding his horse at the same time that some sheep are running beside them. There are some cherubs holding a garland together with some griffins in the front and back panels. In the sides, there are other cherubs holding a cartouche decorated with scrolls, shells and a grotesque mask . The box is supported by the lions paws of four snake head-swans placed in each of the four corners. A red velvet fabric covered the interior of the box. The scutcheon of the box is adorned with scrolls. There is no key.
