About the Item
Rare, Edwardian Period, Victorian-Style, sterling silver, footed jewelry box, London, England, year-hallmarked for 1902, William Comyns - maker. The top of the box is designed with the Joshua Reynolds' Cherubs in the Clouds motif. The jewelry box has a pull-out drawer (having a hinged handle) and is lined with dark blue velvet. The drawer easily slides in and out of the box and fits neatly onto its wooden shelf inside of the jewelry box (the inside of which is also wood lined). The underside of the box is covered in dark leather (see photos). The legs of the box are gracefully curved as is the box itself. The box measures 3 1/2 inches high x 5 1/2 inches wide (at widest point) x 3 1/8 inches deep (at deepest point). This is a rare and beautiful piece made by one of Britain's best silversmiths. Dark areas on sterling silver in photos are reflections. In very good antique condition.
