About the Item

A superbly crafted circular gilt bronze box of exceptional quality, featuring a rich turquoise-blue guilloché enamel top centered with an oval medallion bearing a finely hand-painted portrait miniature of an 18th-century lady in court dress, reminiscent of Marie Antoinette. The enamel surface is beautifully engine-turned in a radiating pattern that reflects light with elegance. The body of the box is encircled by a classical relief frieze of acanthus and anthemion motifs in the Louis XVI style, finely chased and crisply detailed. The box stands on four shaped bracket feet and features a hinged lid with a precision clasp mechanism. The medallion features a finely rendered female portrait beneath translucent enamel, framed in a delicate gilt bronze beaded bezel. The figure depicted is a fashionably dressed 18th-century lady, shown in three-quarter view, with soft facial features and elaborately styled hair adorned with a ribbon or floral ornament. Her attire suggests French Rococo fashion, with puffed sleeves, a ruched bodice, and a draped sash.
