About the Item
Vintage 20th Century European solid silver cigarette case. The front features a flying bird amidst foliage, while the reverse displays a simple foliage pattern. The design highlights silver engravings set against a gilt gold background. A small chain is connected to both the lid and the base of the case. Hallmarked French import sterling silver (2 swan stamps, 925 standard).
The swan mark, in use since 1st July 1893, was applied to silver of all origins. Until 1970, it was also used on items from non-contracting countries. Additionally, it appears on silverware of legal fineness but unknown origin.
