About the Item

The base hinged lid are fashioned from panels of porphyry, specifically that of ‘Rhomb’ Porphyry, which is a relatively rare volcanic rock with very distinctive phenocrysts (crystals). The hinged lid fitted with a gilt metal mount with a reeded edge, opening to a plain interior with a gilt metal mount featuring a crimped edge. The underside showing remnants of a BADA (British Antique Dealers Association) label. In very good overall condition, apart from some minor structural distress as observed to the rear right-hand corner of the lid. Dimensions, 1.25” high x 2.5” wide x 2” deep.
